Nine members of the GRIIDC team will be attending the 2015 Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference, February 16th to 19th in Houston, Texas. GRIIDC staff will be on hand at an exhibitor booth, set up in the foyer of the Westin Galleria - Houston, to promote the use of the GRIIDC system for storing, sharing, and discovering Gulf of Mexico data. The booth will also feature a one-on-one support area, where GRIIDC staff will assist researchers with signing up for GRIIDC accounts, creating Dataset Information Forms, creating metadata, and submitting dataset packages to the GRIIDC system.

In addition to the exhibitor booth, four GRIIDC staff members will be presenting in the scientific session "Data Management and Informatics Supporting Ecosystem Sciences". This session, taking place the afternoon of Tuesday, February 17th, will allow Gulf data managers, and others, to convene to share data management lessons learned and forecast what may lie ahead. Presentations from GRIIDC staff will include:

• Cryptographic Hashing of Data Files to Ensure Data Integrity by James Davis

• Metadata Lessons Learned from Highly Variable Data Collections by William Nichols

• Advancing a Data Sharing Culture by Jim Gibeaut and Lauren Showwalter

• Sufficiency of Self-document Data Exchange Standards by Felimon Gayanilo

Throughout the conference, GRIIDC will also be hosting Data Management Workshops in the West Alabama Room. These workshops are free to attend and open to all conference attendees. After a short presentation by GRIIDC staff, workshop participants will have the opportunity to complete a data management activity that will assist with the creation or implementation of Data Management Plans required by GoMRI. GRIIDC encourages all conference attendees to participate in at least one data workshop and share lessons learned with colleagues.
