Remembering Matt
As many of you may already be aware, Dr. Matt Howard passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2018.
Since the early days of the program Matt was a key collaborator and a champion of GRIIDC. He acted as a lead on GRIIDC work groups, was a data manager for the GISR consortium, and most recently provided his expertise in oceanographic data through writing guidance documents, reviewing manuscripts, and assessing dataset packages. In addition to his work with GRIIDC, Matt served as the Data Management and Communications Coordinator for GCOOS and was a Research Scientist in the Department of Oceanography in Texas A&M University’s College of Geosciences.
We will greatly miss Matt’s insight, expertise, and constant support. He was always quick to help GRIIDC with whatever was needed, providing sound input and advice. His enthusiasm, kindness, and sense of humor at work lead to many friendships in the oceanographic and data communities. Many of us will miss Matt not only as a colleague, but as a friend.
