New year, new data! GRIIDC is excited to continue working with our partners to store and share Gulf of Mexico data! Let’s take a look back at GRIIDC’s accomplishments in 2024.

January

GRIIDC presented a virtual poster for the American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting: “Times They Are A-Changin’: GRIIDC’s Adaptation to FAIR and Trust Principles”.

February

We were thrilled to announce the launch of our website refresh! The website was designed with a new, modern look and user-friendly interface that features a search bar on the homepage allowing users to quickly search through our catalog of over 3,400 datasets.

GRIIDC attended the 2024 Gulf of Mexico Conference, hosted in Tampa, Florida, from February 19-22. GRIIDC hosted an exhibit booth and participated in the Tools Café where attendees learned the beneficial uses of GRIIDC. https://gulfofmexicoalliance.org/announcements/alliance-meetings/gomcon2024/

March

GRIIDC presented at the Mississippi Based RESTORE Act Center of Excellence (MBRACE) All Hands Meeting to discuss data management training and organizational best practices. The presentation highlighted GRIIDC’s commitment to supporting research data stewardship through effective training programs and sharing proven methodologies for organizing and managing data. https://mbrace.usm.edu/news-1

May

Harte Research Institute (HRI), GRIIDC’s home organization, collaborated at the 2024 All Hands Meeting to cover a variety of topics, including HRI strategic initiatives, leadership and staff recognition, and future endeavors in marine science.

September

GRIIDC launched a new dataset monitoring page, a helpful tool that allows users to view the status of datasets through the data package review process. The new page features a search option, new reports, and a user-friendly dataset status table.

October

GRIIDC virtually attended the Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA) Data & Monitoring Team mid-year meeting. The team focused on advancing collaborative efforts to improve data collection, accessibility, and integration across the Gulf region, reaffirming their commitment to supporting science-based decision-making and sustainable resource management. https://gulfofmexicoalliance.org/

GRIIDC virtually attended the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting which brought together scientists, researchers and professionals from around the globe to share groundbreaking research and advancements in Earth and space sciences. The event provided a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and discussions on pressing environmental and scientific challenges, fostering innovation and interdisciplinary solutions.
